Energy After Quitting Suboxone®
Benny called the office a few days ago to discuss refills for sleep medication.
Three months earlier he detoxed at the Coleman Institute for Addiction Medicine after 8 years of taking Suboxone® for an opioid use disorder. Prior to being prescribed Suboxone®, Benny had a bad pill habit and was close to using heroin. (He was using pills when it was still much easier and safer to buy them on the street.)

A Sobering Experience
I just returned home from a “virtual” first oncology appointment with a friend. In the midst of the international COVID crisis, my friend now has to deal with the fact that her time on this planet is limited. She is confronted with that “if you had one year to live” scenario.

Who Am I Without Alcohol?
Yesterday afternoon I screened Arthur, a young man who will be coming in for an alcohol detox this morning.
He is very successful, surrounded by supportive family and friends, and — aside from the fifth of liquor he drinks every day, starting with a few snorts each morning to stop the shaking — a healthy specimen. He has been drinking regularly since age 15, which culturally-speaking, is the norm in his world.

Breaking Up With Your Addiction
Consider addiction as an abusive partner. After the novelty wears off, the dynamics and red flags of an unhealthy relationship with a substance come to light – poor communication, controlling behavior, and gaslighting, to name a few.
