See What Our Richmond Opioid Detox Patients Have To Say…

“This place right here is GOD sent! From Kim at the front desk, to the beautiful woman behind her (I didn’t catch her name!), to Tonya the tech, Brittany the provider, to Kelsey the case manager! You will never find a detox center that cares so much about their patients! If you’re serious about getting clean then this is the place! I don’t have one complaint about anything! Even bought me a pizza on my last day that was phenomenal! I just want to thank your whole staff for making this transition in my life possible! Here’s to forever sober”

Caleb Morris – Richmond, VA, December 2023

“The staff was incredibly non-judgmental and empathetic, and I honestly feel like they cared about me and my comfort as a patient. They’re able to react dynamically in accordance with the specific needs of me as a patient. I never thought I’d get off Fentanyl…from the ladies answering the phones, to the nurses, to the doctors, and the rest of the staff, these folks are miracle workers with angel wings. Thank you for setting me free.”

Opioid Patient – Richmond, VA, October 2020

Honestly everyone here is so caring and kind. I know I wouldn’t be where I am without them. Almost 4 years clean and counting. Thank you all :)! Extremely grateful for everyone here!”

What To Expect From Our Accelerated Opiate Detox Program In Richmond, VA

Choosing the right opioid detox program is an important step on your recovery journey. We want to help you through this process. Here’s what you can expect with an outpatient opioid detox using the Coleman Method:

Getting Started:

Start by calling us now at 877-773-3869 or request a callback to receive a call from a Care Advocate on the Coleman Institute – Richmond team. During the call, our Care Advocates will answer any and all of your questions about our outpatient detox program and help you decide when you want to start your treatment. We can typically begin your treatment within a week – there is no waiting list.

Before Your Appointment:

We will ask that patients stop taking their opioids 16-48 hours before their first scheduled appointment, based on guidance from our physicians. We will also ask that patients have a support person present for the duration of the detox program and for 48 hours after detox is completed. Patients undergoing this treatment should not drive motor vehicles and should be monitored at all times to ensure safety.

Your First Appointment:

At the first appointment, patients will be in mild withdrawal from stopping their opioid use 16-48 hours prior to this appointment. One of our licensed, experienced practitioners will give the patient-tailored comfort medications throughout the day to help alleviate withdrawal symptoms. Patients will also receive a microdose of Naltrexone.

Intermediate Appointments:

Similar to the first appointment, the intermediate days of our outpatient opioid detox in Richmond, VA continue with managing and providing comfort medications throughout the day, with dosages tailored to patients’ individual needs. Microdose Naltrexone will again be used to help speed up the opiate detox and healing process.

Final Appointment:

Patients will have made significant progress by their final appointment. Patients can rest comfortably in their private room at our opioid detox center while the remaining opioids are gently removed from their brain. This process typically takes around 6 to 8 hours, and patients are monitored closely. At this point the detox is complete and patients are given long-lasting Naltrexone to help reduce cravings. Following the opioid detox, many patients choose Naltrexone implants for additional support as they start a new life free from addiction.

Why The Coleman Institute’s Accelerated Opioid Detox Program – The Fast And Comfortable Option

Most people cannot stop using opioids without experiencing severe withdrawal symptoms. They quickly learn that they need to seek out professional help through medical detoxification. Here are common opioid detox options in and surrounding Richmond, VA:

Self-Detox:

Trying to stop opioid use on your own can be extremely uncomfortable and dangerous. “Going cold turkey” and stopping opioid use suddenly with no medical assistance can result in extreme physical discomfort from withdrawal, and can even be life-threatening. Trying to wean yourself off of opioids without medical help is almost never successful. Because of the safety concerns and high probability of relapse, self-detox is not recommended.

Inpatient Detox:

Inpatient detox requires a long stay in a hospital or rehab facility where medical professionals monitor the patient and administer medications for pain and discomfort. The length of the stay depends on the patient, but it can last for upwards of 30 days. A long stay in such a facility can be very disruptive to daily activities, and it can be very expensive.

Ultra Rapid Opioid Detoxification (URD or UROD):

This is an inpatient detox method where a hospitalized patient is put under general anesthesia and is given opioid antagonists like Naltrexone intravenously. Fully flushing drugs out of the system can take as little as five minutes, but it is an extremely expensive method of detox that can come with serious medical risks. There have been fatalities reported after this treatment. Our clinic stopped using this method of opioid detox in 2001.

Methadone or Buprenorphine:

Methadone and Buprenorphine have been useful in helping those suffering from opioid addiction by transitioning them from Fentanyl or other dangerous opioids to this legal (when prescribed) alternative. Under the supervision of an addiction specialist, these can be effective, but it can result in the challenge of needing to detox off the Methadone or Buprenorphine when you are ready. Since these substances are still opioids, when you stop taking them, they can result in withdrawal symptoms. Most of our patients say that detoxing off of Methadone or Buprenorphine is more difficult than withdrawing from other opioids.

Our Outpatient Accelerated Opioid Detox Program:

Our program is an outpatient detox program that uses a tailored regimen of comfort medications and Naltrexone Therapy to help patients detox safely in as little as 3 days without the risks and costs of other programs. We think our 98% completion rate speaks for itself.
